Overview Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding conventions (ICD 10 - CM/PC, CPT, and HCPCS), and CMS coding requirements Computer proficiency, ability to research coding questions and utilize educational resources required Licensure/Certification/Registration: One of the following: Credentialed through American Health Information Management Association in one of the following: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) OR Credentialed through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in one of the following: Certified Outpatient Coder (COC, COC-A) Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CPC-A) Desired Qualifications: Associate degree 1 year coding experience in an acute care facility Responsibilities Assigns and sequences code for complex outpatient accounts according to established regulatory guidelines, industry best practices, and IH policies and procedures.
