Looking for a great opportunity to work in Outdoor Recreation? H.A.R.D. is expanding its Outdoor Recreation Program, and we’re seeking an Outdoor Recreation Lead to help launch and operate the challenge-course experiences at Rowell Ranch—facilitating safe, memorable high- and low-element days for youth, schools, community groups, and families. Join H.A.R.D.’s growing Outdoor Recreation team as we launch challenge-course experiences at Rowell Ranch. We’re looking for a field leader who pairs excellent facilitation with rock-solid technical judgment. The ideal candidate holds a current ACCT Level II certification, leads with “challenge by choice,” communicates clearly at height and on the ground, and keeps programs flowing from set-up to wrap-up. You’re comfortable serving as the on-site technical lead when needed; keeping rescue readiness sharp; and knowing when to pause or modify activities for safety. You’re organized about daily inspections, gear checks, and compliance documentation; practiced with belay systems and life-safety equipment; and skilled at mentoring facilitators to create positive, equitable group experiences. You carry First Aid/CPR/AED and a valid CA driver license, thrive outdoors (including at height), and can flex to mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as programs demand. POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator II, the Outdoor Recreation Lead will provide instruction with assistance from Outdoor Recreation Instructors to students 10 to 13 years of age at various sites throughout the District. The position will adhere to outdoor recreation curriculum which includes non-traditional sport activities such as pickleball, hiking, biking, kayaking, and dodgeball. This position will require you to work mornings, evenings, and weekends. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for leading programming duties, but may also perform general duties to assist in outdoor programming. This class can be distinguished from the class of Outdoor Recreation Instructor because incumbents in this class have program/curriculum lesson planning responsibilities.
