About The Position

The Campus Rec Student Worker is responsible for performing operational tasks for Campus Recreation programs and facilities. They will provide excellent customer service, maintain facility and asset cleanliness, ensure that all policies are followed by guests and participants, and ensure all safety measures are being implemented. The Outdoor Rec Programming Assistant is primarily responsible for facilitating programming of Outdoor Recreation. They are responsible for providing excellent customer service, risk management, and facilitation of trips and events found on the Outdoor Recreation calendar. This involves working at assigned events and may involve participating in any assigned aspect of the planning, promotion, or post-event critique and analysis of events. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assisting in leading and promoting safety during off-site trips and events within the Outdoor Recreation department. Ensure the safety of all program attenders by knowing and following all set policies and procedures and maintaining a working knowledge of all Emergency Action Plans. Assist in facilitating the promotional and marketing shifts on LU’s campus. Assist in the direction and facilitation of the Liberty Mountain Trail Races Series. Provide excellent customer service to participants on all programs. Maintaining the general maintenance, organization and cleanliness of equipment and gear. Lead CSER workers or volunteers and provide a model of excellence for them to follow. Regularly assist with events and operations during evening, nights, or weekend hours. Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings. Perform all other tasks assigned by the Outdoor Rec Programming Coordinator to assist with Campus Recreation operations and programming. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Requirements

  • Current Liberty University student
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Ability to work up to 18 hours per week
  • Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)
  • Ability to communicate effectively to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Wilderness First Aid Certifications, Challenge Course Certifications, and/or Swiftwater Rescue Certifications
  • Previous experience with outdoor recreation programming or facilities
  • Experience in a customer service position
  • Desire to pursue recreation management as a career field
