About The Position

Essential Functions Administrative Duties Provide strategic planning, leadership, vision, direction, and management of The Outdoor programs, integrating best practice and student development in support of the College mission Ensure program, staff, and participant compliance with safety guidelines, policies, and best practices. Assess program effectiveness through data tracking, participant evaluations, and student and staff input. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees, including student coordinators, TOP student leads, student staff, and volunteers. Work closely with the Director to resolve personnel issues involving student employees. Work closely with the Director and Business Operations Manager to develop budgets. Manage purchasing and budget approvals for The Outdoor Program and Bouldering gym. Oversee development and implementation of marketing/outreach for all responsible programs. The Outdoor Program Develop and oversee TOP with an emphasis on the development of strong student leadership, self-efficacy, and advocacy skills. Lead and participate in day and overnight outdoor excursions in a wide variety of climates and terrain with various group sizes and skill levels. Ensure program adherence to all public lands/waters regulations; obtain and manage public lands Special Use Permits when necessary. Organize the promotion of all TOP programs, including the use of social media, website updating, community outreach, tabling events, fliers, staffing college functions, etc. Provide activity-specific training and competency assessment for all TOP staff and volunteers. Serve as primary on-call responder while field programs are operating; respond to emergencies as needed. Manage TOP rental center and inventory, including equipment rental items, check-out/check-in procedures, equipment maintenance, and procuring new/replacement equipment. Climbing Facilities Manage campus bouldering gym, including supervision and training of Lead Setters, and ensure space meets health and safety and industry standards. Develop quarterly objectives for route setting, maintenance/cleaning, and volunteer engagement. Oversee purchasing of tools and equipment needed to maintain indoor and outdoor climbing walls to industry standards. Train and supervise climbing gym leads in safe setting practices, including setting from ladders and fixed lines. Work with other unit staff on annual budgeting for staffing, supplies, and materials. Other Duties Support New Student Orientation and other student engagement initiatives. Work with the department staff in managing registrations as needed for program areas. Serve on division and campus work groups and committees as assigned. Provide backup CRC building and staff supervision. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of professional experience specific to outdoor recreation.
  • Experience providing leader/staff training in two or more of the following areas: boating, backpacking, climbing, skiing, and mountaineering.
