About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Aquatics Director, this seasonal, limited part-time position runs the duration of the summer starting in mid-May and running through Labor Day weekend. This position supports the Assistant Aquatics Director in the management of the outdoor pool. The role acts as a shift supervisor overseeing aspects of pool management and team leadership. Outdoor pool managers are central in creating a welcoming, safe, and fun summer experience for our outdoor pool members. Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma and American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/AED certified or able to become certified within 14 days of hire.
  • At least one year of Aquatics Industry experience including successful experience managing a process or people is required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
  • Must display management and supervisory skills, including good decision-making skills, strong judgement and excellent communication skills (including verbal tact and clarity, discretion, listening, ability to provide effective direction to staff and members, and effective problem solving).
  • Computer skills (e-mail, Word and Excel) required.
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills required.
  • Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.
  • This position requires performance on-site and is performed outside in heat, humidity and a variety of weather.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day outdoor pool operations:
  • Learns and oversees the processes, standards and requirements to operate the outside pool effectively and safely.
  • Provide support to facilitate shift changes, break rotations, and lunch breaks for lifeguards, cleaning staff, and other pool staff. Makes shift changes, as required.
  • Oversees weekly lifeguard swims and skill checks. Performs swim tests.
  • Manages the facility including swim lane changes.
  • Manages the pool and pump house. Specific responsibilities may include: chemical maintenance, draining/filling, backwashing and documentation.
  • Ensures the safety of every pool patron through education, vigilant preventative guarding, first aid, emergency medical services, rescue services, and staff mentorship/modelling.
  • Monitors outdoor pool and solves problems when and if they arise.
  • Ensures cleanliness and neatness of pool area, grounds and bathrooms.
  • Models conduct, problem solving, customer service and observes daily ODP staff activity and uses good judgement to report concerns to the Assistant Director, intervene to guide, mentor and address or de-escalate issues as needed.
  • Contributes to creating a congenial, collaborative team dynamic.
  • Acts as a liaison between the pool members and the staff with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Resolves logistical issues and member concerns in a professional manner or escalate issues/concerns, as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of the agency Health and Wellness Staff with responsibilities, which, at times, extend beyond the limits of his/her specialized functions.
  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic where each individual is valued and welcomed.
  • Actively participate as an essential member of the Aquatics team.
  • Adheres to JCC policy and protocols (e.g. walkie-talkie, safety equipment, appropriate dress)
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration and transformation, including through personal role modeling.
  • Ability to mentor staff members, especially junior team members
  • Participate in all staff meetings as assigned and contribute to overall organizational success.
  • Other duties as assigned.
