Osteological Digitization Manager

University of New Hampshire
$20 - $50

About The Position

For the project, I'm planning to create a digital repository of 3D models of osteological specimens from the F.A.I.R. Lab via photogrammetry. This is the method of model creation where numerous overlapping images from multiple angles of an object are then stitched together to create a scaled 3D model. There are a few main objectives and desired outcomes of this project: (1) Create a database of 3D models of fragile osteological material so that they exist in a digital form "in perpetuity". This allows for analysis without handling and potentially damaging the skeletal materials. a. Sub-millimeter accuracy of the models means that metric and shape analyses of these materials can be done remotely. (2) A set 3D models of the F.A.I.R. Lab specimens creates a digital library and database that can be used as a teaching repository for students who can access them while taking classes here at UNH.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Anthropology.
  • Experience using photogrammetry with bio-matter.
  • Strong understanding of forensic anthropology fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Create a database of 3D models of fragile osteological material so that they exist in a digital form "in perpetuity". This allows for analysis without handling and potentially damaging the skeletal materials. Sub-millimeter accuracy of the models means that metric and shape analyses of these materials can be done remotely.
  • Create a set of 3D models of the F.A.I.R. Lab specimens creates a digital library and database that can be used as a teaching repository for students who can access them while taking classes here at UNH.
  • Document progress throughout in order to facilitate future uses of photogrammetry technology in the FAIR Lab.
