The OSP Line Maintenance and Construction III oversees the construction and maintenance of outside plant cable facilities in TDS Telecom serving areas. You will perform advanced operation of construction equipment which includes, but is not limited to, bucket trucks, digger / derrick pole setting trucks, trenchers, backhoes, end loaders and plows. You will oversee the overall project while coordinating with internal and external resources. You will ensure the entire team operates according to safety protocols. Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the North Anson, ME warehouse located at: 2 Elm Street - North Anson, ME 04958. This position can be hired at either an OSP Line Maintenance & Construction I (2025-28419), OSP Line Maintenance & Construction II (2025-28420), or OSP Line Maintenance & Construction III (2026-28504) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Requirements

  • 2+ years of construction experience utilizing heavy equipment such as a bucket truck, digger / derrick pole setting truck, trencher, plow, and backhoe -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 2+ years of telecommunications outside plant experience.
  • 1+ years of experience leading construction projects.
  • Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS’s business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers’ needs.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. A current CDL is preferred at hire, but TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in-house CDL certification program after hire.
  • Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Training course curriculum.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to dig, lift and climb.
  • Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • May be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of heavy machinery and test equipment in support of line maintenance of outside plant
  • Advanced operation of bucket trucks, digger / derrick pole setting trucks, trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, plows, and other excavating equipment to maintain and repair outside plant cable facilities.
  • Advanced operation of all test equipment associated with outside plant facilities
  • Replaces, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains fiber optic/copper facilities.
  • Identifies location of defective cable using various test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, underground and/or outside plant cable.
  • Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
  • Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
  • Performs administrative duties related to line maintenance of outside plant
  • Receives maps and staking sheets for full construction project and ensures project is built with limited guidance.
  • Communicates updates to the project team as required.
  • Oversees daily and weekly project work based on deadlines, material and equipment availability, weather, and other factors.
  • Coordinates with supervisor to ensure continual supply of work and availability of materials.
  • Drafts and submits redlines upon completion of project.
  • Ensures DOT inspections are performed on equipment.
  • Performs and assists with all duties of level I and II.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Actively trains, monitors and coaches team members while sharing construction knowledge and experience.
  • Performs quality control inspections and makes training recommendations.
  • Ensures safety protocols are enforced.
  • Services, cleans, maintains, and repairs equipment.
  • Completes all related electronic work order and / or paperwork in a timely manner.
