About The Position

The OSP Engineer at TEKsystems is responsible for supporting the construction and maintenance of the fiber network, focusing on engineering and splicing aspects. This role is crucial for the rapid deployment of the fiber optic plant network, working closely with outside contractors and ensuring that projects meet quality and time specifications. The OSP Engineer will also assist in the overall design of the fiber network, manage materials, and provide support for maintenance and repair operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree and/or 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar field.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a team player.
  • Ability to understand and learn the fiber network construction process.
  • Proficiency in computer use and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of basic fiber network designs.
  • Ability to interpret fiber and utility maps.
  • Competency in telecommunications/fiber network color codes.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with GIS Systems, particularly ESRI experience.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in conduit, cable, and fiber management.
  • Assist with the overall fiber network design, focusing on cost efficiency when working with outside engineers.
  • Engage engineering firms to assist in low-level and high-level design.
  • Help in the infrastructure ordering process and support the management of materials using market vendors.
  • Manage engineering contractors to meet timeframes and quality specifications that meet company and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with municipalities to ensure engineering vendors meet drawing expectations.
  • Support Construction Managers with cable installation and splicing crews, providing splicing diagrams, layout timelines, and workload management to ensure project turnover to customers.
  • Confirm all plant installations are completed as designed at the end of each project.
  • Work with engineering firms to ensure all plant updates are uploaded into our inventory system accurately.
  • Provide OSP support for maintenance, repair, and relocation of the plant.
  • Collaborate effectively with other teams within the organization.
  • Assist in business case development.
  • Perform inventory system audits of the existing plant.
  • Participate in daily and weekly meetings to provide updates on engineering efforts required to meet timelines.
