About The Position

Celerity, a telecommunications/construction company located in Quakertown, PA, is looking for a full time Level 1 OSP Engineer. This position is an entry-level professional responsible for designing and planning the installation of physical network infrastructure. This includes fiber optic cables, copper wiring, poles, conduits, and underground systems that connect a service provider's core network to the end user. As a junior-level role, the focus is on learning industry standards, mastering CAD software and performing field surveys under the guidance of more senior engineers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Equivalent field experience accepted.
  • Basic understanding of fiber optic technology (FTTX) and aerial/underground construction methods.
  • 1-5 years' experience in Outside Plant/Fiber Engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
  • Able to read, interpret, and use Rural Utility Service (RUS) standards.
  • Good knowledge of communications circuit design and applications, as well as construction of Outside Plant Facilities and application of industry standards.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and interpret instructions is essential.
  • Knowledge of cable technologies, structure and handling.
  • Must be able to interpret instructions either written, oral, diagramed, or in schedule form.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Some working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or GIS-based mapping tools is helpful but not essential.
  • Technology based background or experience in a construction related field is a plus.
  • One to two years of experience working for a utility, construction, engineering or telecommunications company working on GIS related activities is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Possess a working knowledge of Google Earth/Arc GIS, CAD, GPS and Microsoft Office software, especially Excel spreadsheets.
  • Convert sketches or specifications of a project or product from an architect, engineer, or other design plan into detailed CAD drawings.
  • Uses various forms of technology such as email, mobile devices and hand-held data collection units to gather and transmit data via Wi-Fi, etc.
  • Conduct site visits to identify existing infrastructure, measure pole heights, and determine optimal routes for new cabling.
  • Create detailed engineering plans, splicing diagrams, and permit drawings using software like AutoCAD, PDFs & Google Earth.
  • Assist in designing pole/cable routes between various points, including aerial, buried and other construction methods.
  • Create and modify layouts and details from contract documents and other specifications.
  • Review engineering drawings/documents and make revisions accordingly.
  • Perform research and documentation for standard utility drawings, as well as for local, state, and/or federal permit application requirements.
  • Understand utility route plans, easements and public right of ways.
  • Identify various types of utilities from a desktop and CAD design.
  • Assist in filing for pole attachments, conduit occupancy and other applications on behalf of the utility owner.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to local municipalities, departments of transportation (DOT), railroads, and utility companies for right-of-way usage.
  • Maintain tracking spreadsheets of permit progress.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) on a sheet-by-sheet basis as well as an overall project basis.
  • Communicate proficiently and professionally to customers, management and coworkers.
  • Make accurate decisions, offer solutions and resolve problems.
