The Department of Workplace Standards, Division of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Compliance, seeks an OSH Safety Compliance Officer II in the OSH Compliance Safety Branch. This position will independently perform inspections to detect safety hazards in places of employment to assure compliance with occupational safety and health laws and regulations. This position will prepare detailed reports including potential recommended citations and monetary penalties. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgments, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree or an associate's degree in occupational safety and health.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional experience in occupational safety and health, safety training, or a related field.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in occupational safety and health, completed occupational safety and health internship, safety, or health training, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for- year basis or professional experience in occupational safety and health or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year-basis.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Performs independent inspections and investigations of industrial safety operations in the workplace to detect safety hazards.
  • Operates technical testing equipment during inspections and investigations to gather evidence for case files.
  • Compiles appropriate information and documentation from workplace inspections and investigations to include in case files and utilizes this data to write detailed reports.
  • Recommends the issuance of citations and penalties.
  • Testifies as a witness in quasi-judicial hearings, including Kentucky OSH administrative hearings on behalf of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet Secretary and in hearings conducted by the Kentucky Safety and Health Review Commission.
  • Participates in training seminars and programs and keeps current on enforcement policies and regulations.
  • Assists in training new employees on equipment, policies, and procedures.
