About The Position
Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is seeking an Orthopedic Technician for its Fredericksburg Ortho Clinic. The hospital combines award-winning research, education, and clinical care with a focus on pediatric patients, aiming to help every child heal and recover. Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Technician applies casts, splints, and other durable medical equipment (DME) to orthopedic patients in an outpatient setting. This role also involves providing patient and family education to a diverse patient population with varying educational levels and is responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies in the cast room. The position operates within VCU Health, a comprehensive system of care that includes an academic medical center, a Level I trauma center, an NCI-designated cancer center, and a full-service children's hospital, emphasizing continuous learning, research, and advanced patient care.
Requirements
- BLS Certification required
- High school diploma or GED required
Nice To Haves
- Orthopedic Technician Certified (OTC) by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologist (NBCOT) preferred
- Current/active OTC certification preferred
- Previous experience in the outpatient clinical setting
Responsibilities
- Applies casts, splints and other DME to the Orthopedic patient population in an outpatient setting
- Provides patient/family teaching to a wide variety of patients with varying educational levels
- Orders and maintains supplies in the cast room
- Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in providing patient care related to casts, splints and wound care all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure
