This job designs and fits supportive products to provide care to patients who have disabling conditions of the limbs and spine or need assistance with activities of daily living to maintain function to remain active. Assesses patients, formulates a treatment plan, implements the treatment plan, follows up and manages the practice. Works closely with the medical staff in the treatment and/or rehabilitation of the injured, athlete or physically challenged. Assumes responsibility for fitting patients with orthotic braces, dispensing TENS units to patients, casting application and removal, splinting, and instructing them on use and care. Requirements

  • Education Required - Bachelor’s Degree in science, business, or healthcare
  • Work Experience Required - 2 years of healthcare related experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirements
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology.
  • Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with all customers demonstrating Ochsner's Core Values.

Responsibilities

  • Applies orthotic bracing.
  • Dispenses and provides instruction for TENS units.
  • Manages patients.
  • Applies casting application, removal, and splinting responsibilities.
  • Maintains orthopedic closets and inventory of closets in designated areas.
  • Assists with delivery of patient care by functioning as an effective member of the team.
  • Ensures the flow and retrieval of information is timely and accurate.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
