Build your Career. Make a Difference. Presbyterian is hiring an Oral Maxillofacial Surgical Assistant to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients in an Outpatient Clinic. Common responsibilities include preparing the patient for the visit, maintaining efficient patient flow, assisting the provider with treatments and procedures, medication administration, support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, authorization and in-basket support with the EMR. Requirements

  • One year of experience as oral surgery assistant.
  • Current Radiology and BLS certifications required.
  • High School Diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Assistant (COMSA) by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) or current certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, and prior authorizations
  • Performs activities to maintain a clean, stocked, safe, and well-organized patient care environment
  • Participates in a care team to meet patient care and clinic needs, working cooperatively with others to accomplish required work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assists Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical staff with procedures and patients under local, nitrous oxide, deep sedation and general anesthesia; under direct supervision of surgeon, performs extra- and intra-oral procedures (i.e. suture removal, dressing changes, irrigations, changing elastics); assists with airway maintenance during procedures, to include routine head tilt, chin lift or jaw thrust; places monitors, records data, and reports to surgeon; and documents anesthesia record.
  • Accurately takes impressions, bite registrations and fabricates models for pre-operative Orthognathic and trauma patients.
  • Exposes and develops x-rays; ensures that x-rays are of adequate diagnostic quality, duplicate x-rays as needed.
  • Responses to patient calls related to test results, medication refills, and referral requests under the direction of the provider.
  • Trained in various programs to include but not limited to scheduling, prior authorizations, and referral management.
  • Performs other duties as required
