About The Position

The Cisco IT team is changing the way we run Cisco’s operations by maximizing the power of technology, business processes, and superior data insights. You will be a member of the Database & Foundational Services team, a dynamic and innovative group dedicated to building next-generation database platforms. We focus on developing highly available, self-healing systems with comprehensive lifecycle monitoring and AI enablement, allowing our clients to manage databases through self-service capabilities. As a Database Administrator, you will develop capabilities for the Oracle platforms powering Cisco’s most critical business applications. This role is a blend of deep Oracle expertise and enterprise-level software development. You will join a group of highly talented engineers building automation that supports and scales Oracle platforms at a global level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field; equivalent work experience accepted with 10+ years of experience across Oracle database platform engineering, automation, and reliability at scale.
  • Experience with Oracle 19c, backup-recovery using RMAN, Data Guard, OEM, strong DB troubleshooting skills & Scripting.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Flask, Ansible, Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle APEX, replication
  • Ability to design for high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability of Oracle database services in cloud and hybrid environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an Agile environment with a focus on root cause elimination and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform for database lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata, GoldenGate, or virtualization technologies.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or similar industry certification.
  • Strong communication skills with experience partnering with global SRE peers and architects.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with core database and platform engineering teams to shape technology roadmaps and design robust Oracle platform solutions.
  • Develop, deploy, and manage large-scale Oracle database automation using Python, Shell scripting, and frameworks such as Django or Flask.
  • Design and build APIs and services to automate database provisioning, patching, upgrades, and monitoring.
  • Advocate for and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including defining SLIs/SLOs, managing error budgets, and conducting incident postmortems.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce Oracle security capabilities (TDE, encryption, auditing, and compliance).
  • Coordinate with Oracle and third-party vendors to troubleshoot complex issues related to functionality and cloud integration.
