About The Position

As a PRN Surgical Nurse, you will provide safe, effective perioperative nursing care in one or more operating room units on an as -needed basis. You will support surgical procedures from pre -op through post -op, ensuring proper aseptic technique, maintaining specialty equipment, and promoting patient safety and comfort. This role is ideal for an experienced RN seeking flexibility while remaining engaged in high -quality surgical care.

Requirements

• Current RN license with the Alabama Board of Nursing
• Must complete hospital -based ACLS and PALS
• Minimum of 3 months nursing experience preferred; OR experience strongly preferred
• Strong communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive perioperative care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
• Maintain sterile fields, instruments, and surgical supplies in accordance with AORN standards
• Assist anesthesia and surgical teams before, during, and after procedures
• Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts and ensure proper specimen handling
• Support surgeon preferences and maintain accurate preference cards
• Serve as a resource for staff and nursing students as needed
• Promote patient safety and adhere to infection control and hospital protocols
