About The Position
As a PRN Surgical Nurse, you will provide safe, effective perioperative nursing care in one or more operating room units on an as-needed basis. You will support surgical procedures from pre-op through post-op, ensuring proper aseptic technique, maintaining specialty equipment, and promoting patient safety and comfort. This role is ideal for an experienced RN seeking flexibility while remaining engaged in high-quality surgical care.
Requirements
- Licensure: Current RN license with the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Certifications: Must complete hospital-based ACLS and PALS
- Experience: Minimum of 3 months nursing experience preferred; OR experience strongly preferred
- Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork

- OR experience strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive perioperative care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
- Maintain sterile fields, instruments, and surgical supplies in accordance with AORN standards
- Assist anesthesia and surgical teams before, during, and after procedures
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts and ensure proper specimen handling
- Support surgeon preferences and maintain accurate preference cards
- Serve as a resource for staff and nursing students as needed
- Promote patient safety and adhere to infection control and hospital protocols
