Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring an Optometry Assistant to our team! Ideal candidate would be an excellent multi-tasker who thrives in a fast paced environment. Must have excellent customer service skills.

Requirements

  • Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position, medical marijuana license holders who test positive for marijuana will not be qualified for this position.
  • Must align with OKCIC vision, mission and core values
  • Requires high school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience or training in optometry or a related medical field
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record required

Nice To Haves

  • Paraoptametric certification or Medical Assisting certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receives the patient, reviews and updates health history.
  • Responsible for preparing and stocking the examination and treatment rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Assists the Administrative Assistant in reviewing and maintaining the appointment schedule.
  • Assists the Administrative Assistant by answering phone calls and making appointments when available.
  • Triaging patient phone calls and communicating with providers.
  • Instructs patients with eyeglasses and contacts on wear, care and adaptation.
  • Assists in dispensing orders and adjusting glasses for patients.
  • Charts patient visits in EHR and Revolution.
  • Performs basic and routine vision screening examinations.
  • Performs pre-testing and ancillary testing, history taking and correctly documents these results.
  • Administers diagnostic eye medications when indicated by the Optometrist.
  • Ensure in-house drops are properly stored and routinely checked for expiration.
  • Disinfects and maintains ophthalmic instruments, equipment and exam rooms.
  • Assists Optometrist during minor surgical procedures.
  • Assists with registration tasks to properly check patients in and out for their appointments as needed.
  • Assists in returning all phone calls or voicemails by the end of each day.
  • Accommodates patient requests for health information records.
  • Maintains compliance with assigned routine quality assurance duties.
  • Adheres to laser safety principles.
  • Schedules Retinal Imaging appointments and performs retinal imaging photographs as indicated/recommended by IHS quality measures and/or Staff Optometrist.
  • Responsible for meeting/exceeding annual GPRA measure for Diabetic Retinopathy.
  • Ensures quality assurance of retinal imaging programs.
  • Ensures routine maintenance, updates, and repairs are performed on retinal cameras.
  • Assists in other duties, as assigned
