About The Position

SUMMARY: Provides comprehensive vision services to UIHS Clients including complete eye examinations and treatment for a full range of complex optometric conditions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Plans, coordinates and exercises professional judgment in initiating and implementing administrative and clinical decisions when providing vision services. • Provides clinical care as granted via the UIHS credentialing and privileging process. • Examines patient to determine general physical condition. • Responsible for examining vision, eye, and related structures to determine the presence of vision anomalies, diseases, and/or other abnormalities; treating eye conditions by prescribing and adapting spectacle lenses, contact lenses, optical aids, etc. • Elicits and records information about client's medical history. • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on client's condition. • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and of examination, and diagnoses condition. • Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs. • Refer clients to other health professionals for further diagnosis and treatments. • Adheres with accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines. • Attends department meetings and other meetings as assigned. • Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards. • Assists in development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed. • Performs all duties in accordance with the UIHS Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid certificate of completion from a School of Optometry with a degree of Doctor of Optometry.
  • Demonstrated use of intermediate computer operations (basic programming in 3rd and 4th generation languages, relational databases, and operating systems) and intermediate software packages (word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.)
  • Must be able to work in an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must possess a valid license to practice optometry from the state of California
  • Shall possess a valid CPR/BLS certificate.
  • Must meet all other requirements for clinical staff membership as outlined in the UIHS Clinical Staff Bylaws
  • Shall possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to be covered by agency's vehicle insurance and provide proof of valid private vehicle coverage.
  • Applicant must pass a drug screen (including THC) and a background check
