Sacred Circle Healthcare is seeking a full-time Optician for our main clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. General Summary of Duties: The Optician is responsible for providing support to the optometry department. The Optician is responsible for both clerical and customer service aspects of the department. Assists the optometrist in examination and treatment. Recommends appropriate lens materials and designs based on patient needs and preferences. Advises patients on proper frame design, fit and performance. Functions as primary liaison between patients, clinic staff and Optometrist.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of experience in an Optician position.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking.
  • Experience working with the Native American community.

Responsibilities

  • Performs examination pre-tests and other procedures that support the optometrist in diagnosing and managing the patient’s visual and ocular problems.
  • Sets up and enters testing results in the patient’s electronic record
  • Manages patient flow and provides exceptional customer service.
  • Assesses and interpret patient’s optical needs/wants based upon prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and occupation, and suggest most appropriate products (i.e. frames, lens type, coatings).
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of products.
  • Takes necessary measurements for patient’s eyewear.
  • Prepares work order for lab ensuring all pertinent information is listed (i.e. patient information, prescription, lens size/type, measurements, lens options, etc.).
  • Enters billing information into electronic health record system.
  • Prepares purchase request for hardware and supplies.
  • Inspects incoming orders for quality and accuracy.
  • Inspects final product for accuracy; adjust completed glasses to fit patient using pliers, hands and heat if necessary to bend frames accordingly.
  • Educates patients on how best to care for their glasses.
  • Adjusts/repairs damaged frames, replaces nose pads and missing screws.
  • Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all Sacred Circle Health Care Policies and Procedures.
  • Practices and adheres to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Values Statements.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
