About The Position

Are you an experienced leader with a passion for helping patients find the perfect eyewear and enhancing their vision experience? We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Optical Manager to oversee all aspects of our clinic’s optical services, lead dedicated staff, and ensure the highest standards in care and customer service. About the Role As the Optical Manager, you will oversee all aspects of Optical Services within the practice. Your responsibilities include leading staff, managing optical operations, and fostering a collaborative team environment. You will ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care by maintaining high standards in product selection, dispensing, and customer service. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing inventory management, maintaining compliance with optical service standards, supporting growth through marketing initiatives, and fostering positive relationships with patients.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of Optical experience and/or a minimum of two years of experience managing staff in a professional services retail setting is required.
  • A minimum of an associate degree is strongly desired, or equivalent optical management or retail management experience may substitute for education.
  • Expertise in the technical aspects of optical, including glasses prescriptions, lenses, frames, and contact lenses
  • Knowledge of eyewear trends and technologies
  • Experience in managing inventory effectively
  • Computer proficiency in optical software, Word, and Excel
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to providing exemplary customer service
  • Proven ability to inspire teams in achieving objectives and addressing patient requirements
  • Consistently ensures products and services adhere to the highest quality standards
  • Skilled at developing and implementing impactful marketing strategies

  • Ability to communicate clearly with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Capable of handling repetitive computer work, lifting boxes up to 40 lbs., moving displays, and organizing stock.
  • Close visual acuity required for data analysis and computer work.
  • Fine motor skills to adjust eyeglasses, handle small parts, perform eye measurements, repair frames and demonstrate proper lens-cleaning techniques to patients.
  • Work is primarily in a typical office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Optical Operations & Department Management : Direct all aspects of Optical Services, including workflow standards, departmental initiatives, financial performance, budget planning, and adherence to policies and procedures. Oversee departmental metrics, reporting, and audit functions.
  • Staff Oversight & Development : Oversee Optical and Contact Lenses department staff, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, training, compensation, timekeeping, and performance management. Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss department goals, agendas, and foster open dialogue.
  • Marketing & Productivity : Develop annual marketing plans with internal and external strategies. Monitor and benchmark optical shop performance and productivity.
  • Resource & Inventory Management : Prioritize departmental resources such as staff, space, and equipment. Oversee inventory management procedures and agreements. Cultivate and maintain vendor relationships to ensure optimal supply and pricing.
  • Leadership Collaboration & Compliance : Work with the Leadership team to implement companywide initiatives, business directives, and policies, fostering a positive, patient-centered, and team-based environment. Ensure departmental compliance with regulations.
  • Education & Additional Duties : Partner with the CEO to provide education to Optometrists for seamless patient flow. Coach and direct Optical Supervisors and Operations Coordinator in implementing workflow decisions and optimizations and in monitoring departmental processes. Perform additional duties as assigned.
