This position provides professional nursing services in the care and treatment of patients within DOH-Duval community health care centers and satellite service provision sites. The candidate who will fill this position will work under the supervision of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director, Registered Nursing Consultant, and/or in conjunction with the medical provider and nurse leadership team. A current Florida Nursing License is required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Public relations skills.
  • Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.
  • Ability to keep accurate records, follow instructions, communicate effectively.
  • Ability to administer medications.
  • Ability to administer immunizations.
  • Ability to draw blood.
  • Ability to assist in planning and conducting a variety of training activities.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to teach healthcare.
  • Florida Registered Nurse License.
  • Ability to provide immunizations.
  • Must be willing to physically come into the office daily and perform field work as requested.
  • Access to a personal vehicle and a current Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately apply nursing principles and techniques in the direct care and treatment of women’s health, family planning and/or sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Correctly make assessments of and document patient health status.
  • Assess, treat, evaluate, and provide health education and follow up with appropriate cultural competence.
  • Positively assist provider in clinic session.
  • Interpret and implement provider orders and recommendations to patients appropriately.
  • Complete and follow up on referrals as appropriate and accurately document all clinically relevant information.
  • Provide exemplary customer service during telephone and walk-in triage as necessary in consultation with the provider.
  • Properly obtain vital signs and medical history; and perform simple laboratory procedures.
  • Willingly and proactively assist in maintaining inventory of medical supplies and medications; and prepare examination/treatment rooms and equipment.
  • Provide vaccines, FLSHOTS data entry, and inventory maintenance.
  • Promote cooperation within the agency and externally by maintaining positive relationships with Management Team, Physicians, Nurses, Health Support Technicians, Human Service Counselors, Senior Clerks and other staff.
  • Develop and maintain an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care and case management.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, including the peer review process (may).
  • Attend clinical staff meetings, in-services, seminars and trainings for self-improvement, increased competency, and retention of skills.
  • Participate in the orientation and staff development programs for persons assisting with client care.
  • Oversee the work activities of ancillary personnel (may).
  • Ensure timely completion of all mandatory training.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of employee leave and attendance records, Employee Activity Records (EAR's), and travel vouchers.
  • Perform other related duties.
  • Provide services as required during disasters and perform other related duties as required.
  • Travel in relation to above duties.
