About The Position

This position performs clinical nursing duties related to the following Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier) programs: Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), Employee Health, Family Planning, Immunizations, Adult Health with the majority of time focused on Infectious Disease (HIV/AIDS). The position requires the ability to work independently within scope of practice for described duties listed. Position coordinates daily clinic activities with providers including the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Medical Doctor (MD) staff. This position is at risk for exposure to respiratory and bloodborne pathogens; requires annual TB assessment which may include Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) and recommended to have up-to-date vaccination for vaccine-preventable diseases. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and processes improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. Continuously demonstrates the Department’s ICARE values. This position reports to the Community Health Nursing Consultant.

Requirements

  • License per Florida Statute 464. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 or possess a nursing multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Experience with phlebotomy or willingness to learn.
  • Valid FL driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • ICS Training (completed within 3 months of hire if not trained); 500/501 Certification and recertification (completed within 3 months of hire)
  • Correctly utilize an N95 face mask
  • Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in performance of job duties.
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Creole.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a U.S. accredited college or university, or an Associate's Degree in Nursing with applicable experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years recent experience in communicable disease, public health, and family planning nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical nursing care to all clients in the Adult Health clinic during clinic hours of operation and outside clinical hours as needed.
  • Coordinates laboratory services and referrals to outside providers. Oversees the blood draw station area for the clinic, performs phlebotomy and other laboratory functions to include specimen procurement and appropriate handling and shipping of specimens.
  • Collaborates with medical staff. Coordinates medical care with case managers when indicated. Assists in the collection of health history (vital signs, symptoms, and complaints). Assists medical provider during exams and reinforces provider instructions to client.
  • Provides translation service for clients and staff, if bilingual.
  • Supports vaccination outreach efforts including with the jail. Provides back up support for clinical services related to communicable disease control and prevention programs as required or needed (STD, HIV, TB, EPI, Refugee Health).
  • Responsible for supporting clinical operations by overseeing the ordering and inventory management of medications for the clinic.
  • Collaborates with communicable disease control and prevention programs for clinical services including but not limited to specimen collection, processing, shipping, and handling, clinical supplies and inventory management including but not limited to medications and vaccinations.
  • Establishing and maintaining knowledge in Pharmaceutical Forms System (PFS). Performs monthly inventory with clinic staff. Coordinates the return of medications when necessary.
  • Assist in routine function of clinic through stocking or supplies, maintaining charts, working within the Health Management System (HMS) system, returning phone calls and assisting with reports as necessary.
  • Maintains organization, sanitation, and cleanliness of clinic areas. Serves as lead point of contact for clinical services to ensure coverage in clinic during supervisor absence.
  • Performs other duties and adjusts schedule as necessary as assigned by supervisor.
