About The Position

The principal function of an employee in this class is take care of the Water Renewal Facility grounds, buildings, and ensure the safety of employees and the general public. This position will assist with the operation and maintenance of the City's Water Renewal Facility. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoors environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn to operate and perform preventive maintenance on wastewater plant equipment.
  • Ability to learn to operate computerized and mechanical equipment to control plant processes.
  • Ability to accurately read and record data from gauges and meters.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
  • Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
  • A willingness to obtain the experience and training needed to master the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work under the Operator Class I License.
  • Valid State of Idaho Class D Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Operator Class I License within 1 year of employment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the interior and exterior of the Treatment Plant in a clean and orderly manner to ensure a safe work environment for City employees and the general public, including cleaning buildings.
  • General grounds maintenance and upkeep such as mowing, weed control, debris, and trash.
  • Maintain and repairs administrative building, operators' area, collections area, and other process buildings including MCC's. This would include hosing exterior and interior buildings.
  • Maintain asphalt, gutter cleanliness, and snow removal.
  • Assist in Fire Extinguisher inspections and pull/return for yearly services.
  • Assist with fence and gate repairs.
  • Eliminate trip hazards on plant grounds and inside facilities.
  • Equipment cleanliness.
  • Eliminate trip hazards inside facilities and plant grounds.
  • Ensure safety of guests on tours such as hosing or cleaning guard rails and ensuring pathways are cleared.
  • Assist in the set up of events and activities.
  • May assist in daily operation duties such as: checking septic haulers, biosolids, sampling, assisting operators on rounds and daily tasks, operator lab, and operator projects.
  • May assist maintenance on small projects including preventative maintenance such as lubricating or changing fluids on mechanical equipment and inventory.
  • May operate heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, dump truck, or street sweeper.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
