OPS Biological Scientist
About The Position
Assist with the autoantibody screening process for prediction of type 1 diabetes. This involves performing ELISA experiments, shipping and receiving from multiple sites statewide, ordering and receiving necessary materials, and preparing and performing screening tests. Prepare and conduct standard methodologies for the extraction, identification, expression, purification, and isolation of proteins, nucleic acids, tissues, and other cell components. These techniques may include: polymerase chain reaction (PCR and RT-PCR), ELISA, RIA, Flow Cytometry, Mononuclear cell enrichment, clinical assays such as HbA1c and CBC, and modern IHC techniques. Maintenance and operation of equipment such as spectrophotometers, multiplex instruments, and plate washers. Interface with secure databases to input all generated data In coordination with UFDI data managers, and perform QA/QC and some preliminary analysis on said data Act as a laboratory waste and chemical inventory technician, assisting the laboratory manager with ensuring EH&S compliance for laboratory safety standards Other scientific, maintenance, and operational tasks as assigned by UFDI STEPS management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field or Associate's degree and 5 years of relevant experience

- Ability to work with proficiency the computer programs Word, Excel, and Graphpad Prism.
- Good team and interpersonal skills to interact with investigators and lab personnel across the spectrum of an academic lab.
- Experience with ELISA and other serology techniques.
