About The Position

The surgery scheduler will provide clerical support in the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic Ophthalmology Department, adhere to all policies and procedures of MMC, and meet the needs of patients in a teamwork approach.

Responsibilities

  • Represent MMC in a courteous and professional manner
  • Greet guests and incoming calls in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner
  • Take accurate messages which include all required information
  • Process voicemails, faxes, and other patient forms and paperwork appropriately
  • Be at your workstation on time and prepared to start the day
  • Email communication is utilized in this department for important messages and updates. Staff members are expected to read emails frequently.
  • Be flexible when asked to stay past your scheduled work time (as needed) to accommodate the needs of patients
  • Print daily schedules for the technicians and providers
  • Print fee tickets and check for accuracy, referral completion, and pull post-op charts for scheduled patients
  • Manage Healthspring and Cigna Connect referrals a week in advance of patient appointment
  • Daily office functions: answer phones, answer patient questions, schedule and reschedule appointments, schedule patients to referring providers
  • Obtain accurate demographic and insurance information form patients to ensure accurate billing and maximum reimbursement
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate patient service
  • Manage insurance benefits for surgical patients and provide explanations to patients
  • Meet with patients and schedule surgeries with the SurgiCenter and print necessary paperwork for the patient
  • Make charts for surgery patients, compiling exam notes, medication lists, insurance information, and other necessary paperwork
  • Document all necessary information into patient chart
  • Ensure completion of surgical paperwork, ie. Consent, SurgiCenter instructions, pre-op instructions
  • Maintain list of patients scheduled for DESK and PKP and order corneal tissue as needed
  • Meet or exceed patient, doctor, and staff expectations through a cooperative, teamwork approach
  • Keep your work area and the clinic clean.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all MMC policies and procedures.
  • With instruction, perform other duties as required or assigned
  • Schedule, coordinate and reschedule patient appointments as instructed.
  • Responsible for scheduling all surgery patients for surgery, pre-op and post-op appointments.
  • Review surgical paperwork with patient and have patient sign necessary documents.
  • Call insurance to verify benefits and obtain prior authorization and pre-certifications.
  • Maintain the providers' surgery schedules.
  • This position is cross-trained to cover reception whenever needed.
  • Prepare and process fee tickets for patient appointments.
  • Collect and process co-payments, deductibles, co-insurances or other patient-responsible balances.
  • Ability to provide good telephone etiquette and be able to communicate surgery details/instructions when scheduling surgery in office and over the phone.
