About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible to deliver the highest of customer service standards for patients and families presenting for Ophthalmology services. The Ophthalmic Tech will be responsible for patient care included but not limited to; rooming, performing pre-examination testing, and assisting the Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist as needed. This individual will enter patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and will assist with the coordination of surgical and diagnostic procedures for Ophthalmology patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or ability to obtain COA or COT within 1 year of hire
  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Patient Information Database (Cerner)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in related field of study
  • Previous experience in the Eye Care Field

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients for exam.
  • Medical history taking.
  • Initial ophthalmic testing.
  • Assisting Ophthalmologist and Optometrist as needed.
  • Administering diagnostic exams such as visual field testing.
  • Assist with patient education.
  • Coordinating and scheduling care of patients referred for surgical services.
  • Inputting all applicable data into the Electronic Medical Record (Cerner).
  • Ordering of general supplies for the Ophthalmology Clinic as needed.
  • Placing work orders and reading prescriptions for orders as needed.
  • Frame and accessories selection as needed.
  • Knowledge of options for lenses and frames.
  • Adjusting of eyewear for patient comfort as needed.
  • Fix, adjust and refit broken frames as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
