About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Ophthalmic Scribe to join an amazing Retina Specialist team. The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic scribe. Requirements

  • 2-4 years of ophthalmic scribe experience.
  • Strong knowledge of preliminary testing, optics, and eye care.
  • Successfully pass a drug and background check as part of the hiring process.
  • Participate in a skills assessment as part of the hiring process.
  • Be available to work Saturdays from 9 AM to 2 PM as part of the regular schedule.
  • Follow the scheduling provided two weeks in advance, unless responding to last-minute changes.

Nice To Haves

  • COA, COT, or OSC certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and accurately document the results of basic ocular screening procedures and collect thorough patient histories, including manual refractions, lensometry, tonometry, visual fields, OCTs, Amsler grids, muscle testing, pupil exams, and corneal topography.
  • Facilitate the smooth and efficient flow of patients through their examinations and care sequences.
  • Provide medical assistance to the ophthalmologist throughout the patient's examination.
  • Act as the primary scribe, recording all relevant notes and findings for the doctor in real-time.
  • Prepare examination rooms by ensuring all required medications, forms, consents, and patient education materials are readily available.
  • Coordinate any special testing with technicians and manage surgical scheduling with the surgical counselors as needed.
  • Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to proper sterile technique protocols.
  • Support the doctor by handling patient phone calls and pharmacy communications, and by ensuring all patient messages and follow-ups are addressed the same day they are received.
  • Communicate all doctor instructions to patients and other healthcare providers as needed, including faxing reports, letters, and post-op visit details to referring doctors.
  • Collaborate with and assist other clinic staff as needed to ensure high-quality patient care.
