The primary goal of an Ophthalmic Scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Physician they are working for, allowing the Doctor to focus on patient care. This role involves accurately and thoroughly documenting medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the Physician. The scribe is responsible for the operation of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) of patients, demonstrating a basic understanding of examination and procedure codes (ICD-9 codes) when inputting into the EMR system, and ensuring accurate procedure coding/charges for all procedures/drugs and correct diagnosis codes. The position also requires anticipating Physician needs to facilitate clinic flow, opening and closing exam rooms, and assisting with testing to maintain clinic flow. Discretion, tact, good judgment, organization ability, attention to detail, and self-motivation are essential. The employee must be willing to travel between offices.
