About The Position

This is an entry-level position at Sansum Clinic within Sutter Health. The Ophthalmic Assistant I is responsible for performing various pre-tests and refractions. With appropriate training and demonstrated competency, the assistant will also aid physicians during examinations and procedures. Key duties include standing rooming and taking blood pressures, as well as other basic ophthalmic assisting skills like chart documentation, vital sign collection, patient preparation for exams, and performing ophthalmology testing.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 18 months OR COT-Certified Ophthalmic Technician within 18 months
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • Skill in operating a computer, and general office skills
  • Problem identification and problem solving
  • Ability to understand and carry out assigned orders by physician or supervisors
  • Customer service skills with patients, physicians, co-workers and all supervisor/management positions
  • Ability to make simple mathematical computations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making
  • Ability to work effectively as team member
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public
  • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to operate visual testing equipment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Ability to efficiently operate Ophthalmology equipment
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities paying particular attention to detail
  • Verbal and written communication skills for regular contact with physicians, patients and staff
  • Knowledge of the most commonly used terms (ICD-10) in Ophthalmology
