About The Position

This is an entry-level Ophthalmic Assistant position at Sansum Clinic, part of Sutter Health. The role involves performing pre-tests, refractions (with training and competency), and assisting physicians with exams and/or procedures. It also includes standing, rooming patients, and taking blood pressures. Employees may handle hazardous drugs in the course of their work, including patient care, which requires them to manage, store, prepare, receive, unpack, transport, dispose of, or administer drugs identified as hazardous or potentially hazardous by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and in accordance with the USP 800 guidelines. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, day shift, and is a regular, non-exempt employee status.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 18 months OR COT-Certified Ophthalmic Technician within 18 months
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • Skill in operating a computer, and general office skills
  • Problem identification and problem solving skills
  • Ability to understand and carry out assigned orders by physician or supervisors
  • Customer service skills with patients, physicians, co-workers and all supervisor/management positions
  • Ability to make simple mathematical computations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making
  • Ability to work effectively as team member
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public
  • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to operate visual testing equipment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Ability to efficiently operate Ophthalmology equipment
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities paying particular attention to detail
  • Verbal and written communication skills for regular contact with physicians, patients and staff
  • Knowledge of the most commonly used terms (ICD-10) in Ophthalmology

Responsibilities
