Requirements

  • 1+ years operating perfect binding equipment, preferably multi-pocket systems
  • Experience in digital book manufacturing (short to medium runs preferred)
  • Familiarity with integrated workflows (web press ? book block ? binder)
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets and production specs
  • Mechanical aptitude for adjustments and troubleshooting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (book blocks, covers)
  • Standing for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Attention to detail and quality focus
  • Strong communication with pressroom and finishing teams
  • Team-oriented with a proactive mindset
  • Self-starter can work independently

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a 4-pocket perfect binder (e.g., Horizon BQ-480 Perfect Binder or similar)
  • Load and configure pockets with book blocks or signatures
  • Adjust clamp, milling, notching, glue application, and cover feeder settings
  • Set up trim dimensions and verify final book size
  • Run jobs according to work orders, ensuring correct sequencing and materials
  • Monitor machine speed and optimize throughput without sacrificing quality
  • Coordinate with pressroom and finishing teams for workflow continuity
  • Inspect book blocks, glue adhesion, spine quality, and trim accuracy
  • Verify cover alignment, hinge scores, and final product specs
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple jobs
