This position involves the safe operation of locomotives and trains within a customer facility, including making up and breaking up unit trains, preparing associated paperwork, and actively participating in safety programs. The role requires adherence to rail rules and may involve assisting with minor facility maintenance.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance.
  • Active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework, including OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses.
  • Willingness to wear required PPE.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
  • Work experience in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Clear drug / alcohol test / criminal background check.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of locomotive operating experience.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate locomotives and trains inside a customer facility.
  • Make-up and break-up of unit trains.
  • Prepare paperwork associated with the movement of railcars.
  • Actively participate in safety programs, including involvement in routine safety meetings.
  • Understand and adhere to rail rules as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the railroad.
  • Assist with minor facility maintenance as necessary.
