About The Position

Bell County is seeking an Operator I for Road & Bridge to join their team in Central Texas. This role involves assisting with roadway and right-of-way maintenance, operating various dump trucks, and performing routine equipment inspections. The position requires adherence to safety standards, effective communication, and participation in emergency response events. The successful candidate will contribute to promoting and sustaining a superior quality of life in Central Texas by delivering cost-effective services in a responsive and innovative manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of related work experience
  • Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
  • Must have a valid state drivers license
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English Language
  • Texas Class “A” CDL with Tanker Endorsements (Required within sixty (60) days of employment)
  • First Aid and CPR (Required within sixty (60) days of employment)
  • Must furnish a working cell phone capable of receiving and sending phone calls and text messages
  • Pass a Criminal background check
  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Pass a Drug screening
  • Pass a Physical exam

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a related field
  • One years’ experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
  • Knowledge of roadway construction
  • Commercial Herbicide Applicator’s License

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the performance of roadway and right-of-way maintenance
  • Operates 6- and 12-yard dump trucks
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
  • Assists with the set up and maintenance of traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
  • Performs basic computer skills including, but not limited to, checking email and electronic timekeeping
  • Under close supervision, enters data into the roadway asset management system
  • Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
  • Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks
  • Complies with departmental and county safety standards
  • Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required
