About The Position

Archer Western Construction is currently seeking a Bridge Lift Operator for the Deep Creek Bridge Replacement Project , in Chesapeake, VA . The Bridge Lift Operator’s primary function is to initiate and oversee the mechanical sequence that raises and lowers the bridge to allow for the passage of marine vessels or to facilitate specific construction phases. They will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of moveable bridge spans (bascule, vertical lift, or swing bridges). Our employees are built to succeed. Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • May be required to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Requires the ability to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure projects are completed properly
  • Possess a strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • Requires good manual dexterity; may be standing, bending, kneeling or sitting for long periods
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Operate electrical and hydraulic control consoles to engage traffic gates, sirens, and span locks before initiating the lift sequence
  • Traffic management: monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic to ensure the bridge is completely clear before operation
  • May perform other duties as assigned
