Job Summary The Dryer Operator is responsible for operating The Dryers in a safe and sanitary manner. Duties include starting up, shutting down, and boiling out equipment, accurately completing all required paperwork, drying product, cleaning the dryer and related equipment, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is competed clearly and concisely. Cleaning the dryer involves sweeping the chamber. The Walker Dryer also operates HTST #4.

Requirements

  • Must adhere to all safety procedures and use safety equipment as required. Must have the ability to troubleshoot issues and persist until a solution is found.
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to discern when issues require input from higher levels of authority.
  • Must possess the ability to pass Walker Module in allotted time specified in current contract.
  • High School level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Basic computational skills required.
  • Simple math reasoning required.
  • Must be able to operate the equipment effectively after the appropriate break-in period.
  • Must demonstrate good judgement when carrying out duties as assigned.
  • Minimum one month of experience in relevant field.
  • English is required as the written and spoken language.
  • Must obtain or be able to acquire a forklift operator license and pasteurizers license.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established start up and shut down procedures for assigned dryers.
  • Maintain proper moisture and quality of the product.
  • Clean product filters and change sprays as needed.
  • Check sweep for proper function.
  • Inspect sock compartments and air conveying systems, logging discrepancies.
  • Monitor moisture and fat once per hour and enter results in log sheet.
  • During downtime, check for powder build-up in socks and walls of dryer, react accordingly to findings. (Inform supervisor of any problems, CIP of unit).
  • Empty overflow barrel each shift. Inspect sifter screen, magnets, and cables, logging and reporting concerns.
  • Properly clean condensed tanks, lines, hand valves and high-pressure pump (repack).
  • Test and log CIP solution strengths.
  • Monitor powder silo levels and react accordingly.
  • In charge of product reclaim (wet blending powder).
  • Maintain and service hand and three-way valves.
  • Operate, CIP, and service HTST.
  • Maintain legal standards for pasteurized product.
  • Keep charts recorded properly.
  • Notify management if state seals are damaged or removed.
  • Maintain diversion valve.
  • Perform proper cut in/cut out on cream and buttermilk each shift.
  • Monitor and maintain all assigned equipment.
  • CIP tanks, lines, presses, as necessary and record all required information on CIP and run charts.
  • Responsible for CIP of lines, buttermilk supply lines, and transfer lines.
  • At shift change take inventory of powder silos.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly Master Sanitation items.
  • Follow all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and neat work area.
  • Responsible for training new hires when assigned.
  • Assist with break and lunch relief as needed.
  • Complete all paperwork neatly and correctly.
  • Follow all safety and working rules.
  • Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and conducive work environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute towards a quality environment.
  • Excellent regular full-time attendance in support of company objectives.
  • Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with California Dairies, Inc. best interests.
  • Support and enforce SQF / QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs. “Food Safety and Quality” are the responsibilities of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
