About The Position

This position oversees operations in support of Janney’s Middle Office and leads a large team of Operations Supervisors and Associates. The Department Manager will function as a contributing member of the Operations Management team and work closely with other departments within Operations, Trading Desks and across the firm as necessary.

Requirements

  • Seasoned experience in the securities industry with knowledge of industry rules and regulations.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a managerial role within Operations at a financial services firm.
  • Series 99 or Series 7 required or obtained within 90 days of start date.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Effective project management skills as evidenced by successful project implementations.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and creatively and perform at a high level in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Advanced expertise using Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Operations Associates on post trade execution activities across asset types and products (equity, fixed income, TBAs, mutual funds, ETFs, UITs, and treasuries)
  • Manage a team in risk identification, procedure enhancements/controls, timely and accurate documentation, and professional communication to trading desks, financial advisors, money managers and market participants (exchanges, custodians, brokers).
  • Provide exception management review over trade fails, trade confirmation process and reconciling differences.
  • Assists staff in identification, investigation, and resolution of exceptions.
  • Participate in strategic and operational decision-making related to Middle Office Operations including the development of short- and long-term goals to improve overall service to clients.
  • Proactively recommend innovations and modifications in line with industry requirements and corporate goals/objectives to improve operational processes, systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Organize/execute department projects on time and within budget that includes writing business requirements for technical teams.
  • Work with Middle Office platform vendors on product enhancements, upgrades, and bug fixes (BETA NXT, DTCC, Bloomberg, Tradeweb).
  • Act as a senior point of contact and escalation to internal and external stakeholder groups.
