About The Position

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operations of the plant. The Operations Supervisor directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies those areas that may need improvement or further development. The Operations Supervisor assures that plant operating conditions are always kept within optimum limits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory and administrative personnel required.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.
  • Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post­offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
  • There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

  • Gas turbine experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that thermal and electrical outputs are maintained at maximum levels and efficiencies.
  • Report normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager.
  • Provide guidance to the maintenance supervisor relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities.
  • Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility.
  • Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
  • Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and procedures; assure that operating policies and procedures are kept up to date.
  • Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise.
  • Ensure that the water chemistry program for the plant is properly implemented, including testing, inspections, and maintenance of water treatment program. Drives process and procedure improvement of plant chemistry programs.
  • Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operating personnel. Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.
  • Operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints.
  • When encountering new and varied work situations, involving a high degree of complexity must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits and procedures at all times.
  • The Operations Supervisor must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and subordinate operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
  • Must ensure duties are performed in such a way as to result in an optimum cost­ benefit ratio.
  • All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.
  • Supervises subordinate operations personnel and cooperates with the Office Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and Compliance Coordinator as needed in the daily operation of the plant.
  • Provides oversight and administration of plant operating procedures including plant startup/shutdown, notification procedures, NERC, LOTO, Safety, Environmental and document control.
  • Works with the NERC compliance organization to ensure the plant is in compliance with current NERC standards and procedures.
  • Supports plant budget development, forecasting, cost and accrual tracking, budget variance reporting and long-range planning/forecasting.
  • Support Station Management with other activities/initiatives as required.
  • Works with the Environmental compliance organization to ensure the plant is in compliance with all applicable permits and standards. Supports environmental stewardship by supporting process and procedure improvement.
  • Supports outage & project scope development. Coordinates outage & project execution activities with plant staff and vendors.
