About The Position

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board is seeking to hire a motivated, self-starting Operations Specialist for the Operations unit. The Operations Specialist is directly under the Assistant Chief of Operations and will oversee and maintain various programs assigned to the Unit. This position will oversee a staff of clerical and paraprofessionals. This is a dynamic position in nature and required the ability to adapt quickly to changes as directed by Senior Management. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with verbal and written communication; with the ability to provide step-by-step instructions to their team and will be able to work well with the public, staff and Senior Management. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board's mission is to function under statutory authority as a quasi-judicial body with a primary focus on public safety. It further acts as a checks and balances on other state and local institutions. The Board imposes release conditions for incarcerated individuals who are exiting penal facilities, revokes and restores good conduct credits from inmates and conducts hearings to determine whether parolees have violated conditions of parole. The Board also notifies victims and their families when an inmate is about to be released from custody. Finally, the Board makes confidential recommendations to the Governor relative to clemency petitions.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
  • Requires a valid and current Illinois driver’s license and ability to travel to locations throughout the state in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operations, organizes, plans, directs, implements, controls and evaluates the activities of the Operations unit.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Gathers data related to hearings and outcomes, and prepares monthly reports required by statutes, agency policies and procedures, or at the request of PRB leadership.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Department of Corrections, including records office supervisors of the various correctional facilities as well as Illinois Department of Justice to answer questions, resolve issues, and ensure open communication and information workflows are optimized.
  • Travels statewide and attends executive level meetings, offering recommendations for consideration on staffing and equipment with regards to unit operation and needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
