About The Position

As an Operations Planning Manager, you will lead all planning and logistics activities for a small to mid-sized manufacturing facility (150+ employees, low to moderate manufacturing complexity). This role ensures customer service commitments are met by balancing demand, capacity, materials, inventory, and production schedules, while driving safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement across the plant. This leader partners closely with Manufacturing, Customer Service, Sales, Supply Chain, Technical, and EHS to optimize planning performance and enable reliable, on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, or operations management.
  • At least 3 years of people leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of operations planning, materials management, inventory control, and customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS and/or Supply Chain certification.
  • Experience in the flexible packaging or related manufacturing industry.
  • Lean Six Sigma training; Green Belt certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Formal training in leadership, safety, quality, and structured problem ‑solving methodologies.
  • SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a visible safety leader, embedding safety in all planning and operational decisions.
  • Partner with the EHS Manager to maintain safety programs, policies, and training.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, storage, and transportation regulations.
  • Model safe work practices and hold teams accountable for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Own all operations planning functions including raw materials, production scheduling, inventory management, and shipping/receiving.
  • Partner with Customer Service and Sales to prioritize demand and align production capacity with customer expectations.
  • Monitor production schedules and backlog across assigned machines to ensure on-time shipment performance.
  • Proactively communicate risks, delays, and recovery plans to Customer Service and Manufacturing.
  • Attend daily and weekly production meetings to align priorities and address planning constraints.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support customer demand while minimizing inventory carrying and transportation costs.
  • Oversee logistics operations, including storage, handling, and disposition of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Review aged and excess inventory and drive action plans to reduce and prevent obsolescence.
  • Act as a planning resource for estimating material requirements, footage, EOQs, and supply needs for projects and special orders.
  • Identify, lead, and support cost ‑savings initiatives throughout the plant.
  • Support Continuous Improvement and Lean initiatives to improve planning effectiveness and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Analyze missed production or shipment dates using Pareto charts and root cause analysis; implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of planning data (routings, standards, machine status, order status, etc.) within BOMA/ERP systems.
  • Prepare and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly planning reports, including backlog, capacity analysis, inventory, variance, and on-time delivery metrics.
  • Provide training and feedback to stakeholders to improve system usage and data quality.
  • Lead and develop the planning, inventory, scheduling, and logistics team through clear goals, coaching, and performance management.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, salary planning, recognition, corrective action, and performance reviews.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and development ‑focused team culture.
  • Serve as backup for Scheduler, PDM Control Coordinator, Inventory Control Coordinator, Warehouse Manager, and Buyer/Planner functions as needed.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Technical, and Maintenance teams to resolve production and process issues.
  • Participate in cross ‑functional meetings and improvement initiatives to enhance overall plant performance.
  • Act as the primary owner for all planning ‑related issues and escalation point within the facility.
