About The Position

The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing advanced level work under the limited supervision of the Chancellor of Early Learning. The incumbent in this position will serve as the Communication Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating the Division’s communication activities, publications, creating and implementing special projects that effectively describe and promote the organization’s mission, vision and services. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:

Requirements

  • 4 years of professional experience in communications in a leadership role.
  • Strong project and process management skills with the ability to lead initiatives from start to finish.
  • Deep knowledge of public relations, journalism, mass communications, news reporting, editing, advertising, and marketing principles.
  • Skilled in AP style and adaptable to writing across multiple formats and audiences.
  • Strong understanding of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Experienced in leveraging social media, professional networking sites, and online communication tools to engage diverse audiences.
  • Excellent research skills with the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information into logical formats for reports and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.
  • Adept at problem identification, solution development, and process improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
  • Experienced with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
  • Knowledge of letters, reports, and tabular formats for structured documentation.
  • Positive, professional attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Considerate of the team workload and morale while maintaining productivity under pressure.
  • Capable of working independently with limited guidance while delivering high-quality results.

  • Applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in communications or public relations AND 3 years of professional communications experience in a leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the DOE communications office to develop and implement a public relations strategy that promotes the Division’s priorities and initiatives.
  • Help grow the agency’s online presence and brand visibility through approved postings that promote the Division’s priorities.
  • Coordinates Division’s communication activities, including development of press materials, such as fact sheets, promotional videos, media advisories, talking points and monthly newsletters.
  • Manages and executes functions to support monthly, quarterly and annual publications and projects.
  • Manage the Division’s social media and other online communications platforms.
  • Coordinates with DOE on responses to media inquires and on public records requests.
  • Creates materials to support communications strategies, including drafting of reports and presentations to various stakeholders and provider groups.
  • Ensures DEL documents are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Serves as primary DEL contact for tracking DEL and DOE document review process.
  • Manages and guides updates to the organization’s internet site.
  • Coordinates state-wide early learning meetings and workgroups consisting of local experts, coalition staff and professionals.
  • Develops action plans and activities to promote the organization’s culture, including strategic planning.
  • Plans and coordinates special events, conferences and trainings throughout the state.
  • Assists in tracking legislative interests and tracking early learning news clips.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with coalition directors and staff, childcare providers, state-wide associations & organizations and advocates.
  • Coordinates with state and national partners to leverage public awareness for issues related to children and families to ensure consistency of the organization’s message.
  • Develops new and improves existing employee publications and newsletters, recommends editorial policies and guidelines, and ensures accuracy and timely distribution.
  • Supervises the quality and appropriateness of communications activities, whether internally or externally produced.
  • Develops and supervises organizational research.
  • Travel may be required to perform assigned duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
