Tired of ops roles where you're just maintaining the status quo? Most operations managers spend their days firefighting the same problems, reporting to people who don't listen, and watching their ideas die in committee meetings. This isn't that. You'll be the operational thread connecting 8 companies across biotech and IT/AI—identifying inefficiencies, building cross-company synergy, and solving problems before the CEO even knows they exist. You'll have real impact. Real autonomy. And real variety. THE SITUATION Our client operates 8 companies under a holding structure—biotech consulting, IT solutions, AI services, and more. Each company has an operating director. What's missing? Someone who sees the whole board. You'll work from the holding company level to: Optimize operations across all 8 entities (eliminate redundancies, share resources, identify synergies) Coordinate with operating directors (peer-level collaboration, not micromanagement) Free up the CEO's time by solving operational challenges independently Drive efficiency improvements that you identify and implement Manage cross-company projects (First up: planning a multi-entity summit) This is fractional to start with potential to expand based on company performance and your impact. WHAT YOU'LL DO Cross-Company Synergy Identify opportunities to streamline operations, share resources, and eliminate redundant processes across the portfolio. Financial Visibility Work with operating directors to ensure financial reporting is clean, budgets are managed, and the CEO has visibility without chasing people. Process Optimization You spot the inefficiencies. You build the solutions. You implement them. No permission needed for obvious wins. Strategic Execution Support The CEO sets the vision. You make sure operations align and execute without becoming a bottleneck. Problem Solving Something broken? You fix it. Gap in operations? You fill it. The CEO shouldn't have to tell you what needs attention—you should already know. Summit Planning (Immediate Priority) Plan and execute a company-wide summit for all 8 entities—logistics, scheduling, agenda, stakeholder coordination, the works. WHAT YOU WON'T DO Clock in/out at the same time every day (hours vary wildly week to week) Wait for detailed instructions (extreme independence required) Manage a structured team reporting to you (you're coordinating peers, not supervising) Work on one company exclusively (you're seeing the whole portfolio) Follow rigid playbooks (every week is different, adapt or die) WHO THRIVES HERE Independent problem-solvers who see a gap and fill it without being asked Adaptable operators who handle chaos without breaking stride Business-minded thinkers who understand P&Ls, budgets, and efficiency metrics Project managers who can coordinate multiple stakeholders across multiple entities Systems builders who document processes so they outlast individual contributors Growth-oriented professionals who want diverse experience across multiple business models
