About The Position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operational activities to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely fulfillment of customer requirements. This role drives performance against contractual service-level agreements (SLAs) and operational metrics while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The Operations Manager leads and develops a team of exempt and hourly employees, providing training, coaching, and performance feedback. Responsibilities include workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to optimize productivity and meet shipping and service expectations. The role also involves monitoring work quality, implementing process improvements, and contributing to decisions related to employee compensation and career development.

  • 5–10 years of managerial experience in warehousing/distribution (education may substitute for experience).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management preferred (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Define operational requirements and implement strategies that meet or exceed customer expectations and contractual obligations
  • Drive operational excellence through LEAN and Six Sigma methodologies, quality management, and cost-control techniques to achieve company goals, profitability, and long-term customer relationships
  • Assign duties, monitor work completion for accuracy, and ensure adherence to SOPs and standardized processes
  • Continuously assess current practices, identify gaps, and lead process improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma tools
  • Manage team performance through coaching, training, and development; provide feedback and administer corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and foster a positive team culture; resolve employee relations issues in compliance with company policies and applicable laws
  • Ensure daily distribution and light manufacturing activities are executed effectively; develop corrective action plans when performance falls below target
  • Plan and organize personnel schedules across all shifts and accounts; optimize workload, labor hours, and productivity to meet production schedules
  • Ensure daily quotas are met; when performance is behind, implement recovery plans and communicate procedural changes as needed
  • Provide timely updates to leadership and teams on quality, safety, delivery, cost, and morale metrics
  • Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to assess productivity and cost management; implement corrective actions as needed
  • Lead start-up activities and collaborate with cross-functional teams to successfully launch new services or processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of departmental processes; ensure associates are trained and current on policies and procedures
  • Supervise and develop staff in alignment with company policies and legal requirements; model positive reinforcement and uphold RK Logistics’ standards of world-class service
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with customers; serve as the focal point for customer visits and operational inquiries; engage in daily communication to address needs and resolve issues promptly
  • Overseeing order processing, fulfillment (including picking and packing), warehouse operations, inventory and order tracking, quality control, and shipping preparation.
  • Collaborating with customer service representatives, warehouse staff, carriers, manufacturers, suppliers, logistics directors, and other team members to ensure SLAs and customer expectations are met.
  • Defining and maintaining detailed product quality checklists; conducting audits/personal inspections to ensure items meet customer specifications and Standard Work (SW) process steps.
