About The Position

Mountain Sky is a 95-year-old luxury guest ranch located in the heart of southwest Montana’s Paradise Valley. Our entire team lives by six core values: Listen & Respond, Include Everyone, Put People First, Give Back to Others, Lead by Example, and Innovate Continuously. We boast the feel of a remote ranch set on 17,000 private acres and up against hundreds of thousands of acres of National Forest but are only 10 minutes from the nearest small town and an hour away from Bozeman. Mountain Sky is open to guests from May-October and has a seasonal staff of 105 associates. The Operations Manager will report directly to the MSGR Assistant General Manager to provide support for all guest operations at the ranch. This is a nine-month position that will center on supporting the ranch during its operational peak. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high aptitude for managing others, a passion for hospitality and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age (required for insurance purposes)
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs overhead.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for 10+ hours in a day.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting position for 5+ hours in a day.

Responsibilities

  • Support MSGR General Manager and Assistant General Manager in the management of all operations at Mountain Sky
  • Manage and schedule the guest services staff at MSGR
  • Report scheduling information for payroll – sick days, unpaid time, vacation, etc
  • Schedule the maintenance and front office staff

  • Oversee MSGR Activities and Risk Manager
  • Oversee MSGR Housekeeping Manager
  • Oversee MSGR Dining Room Manager
  • Oversee MSGR Bar Manager
  • Oversee MSGR Kid’s Program Manager
  • Provide exceptional service to all guests at MSGR
  • Lead “from the front” by demonstrating a willingness to work alongside reports in their respective areas

  • Participate in guest events – ex: lunch ride, talent show, dinner ride, etc.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager to ensure that all budgetary goals are met for areas of responsibility (i.e., activities, housekeeping, dining, kids program)
  • Exercise fiscal responsibility in everything while prioritizing guest experience. All decisions must be data-driven and defensible.
  • Manage relationships with goods and service providers to ensure reliable, affordable service for the ranch.

  • Continuously work with MSGR team and Risk Manager to maintain and increase safety for our guests and staff.
  • Be a capable point person in emergencies- able to think swiftly and thoroughly about an appropriate plan of action and then ensure its execution.
  • Ensure that Accident Reports + Work Comp First Reports are filled out in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain an inventory of staff radios and communicate repair requests to IT Team
  • Support MSGR staff by creating and maintaining a schedule for associates throughout the season.
  • Advertising positions and always networking/ finding new outlets for advertising jobs
  • Collaborate with HR to write job descriptions for all roles in (guest services, activities, and dining)
  • Communicating with applicants and conducting first-round interviews
  • Write letters of recommendation for former associates upon request
  • Assist HR Manager in overseeing associate onboarding process
  • Send out a welcome email, including packing list, to new hires
  • Conduct yourself and ranch operations with the utmost integrity.
  • Respect the privacy of others – ranch guests, staff, and owner.
  • Ability to enforce rules and policies and lead by example
  • Work well with others. All interactions with guests and staff must be conducted in a courteous manner. “Caring” is the pivotal word that should dominate all our actions.
  • Attend weekly operations staff meetings during the guest season, and any other meetings, as requested.
