SUMMARY & MISSION STATEMENT: Midwest Food Bank (MFB) is a $548M non-profit organization with 10 divisions in the U.S. and 2 operations internationally. MFB operates with $95M in assets and an annual organizational operating budget of $20M to distribute over $548M in food and disaster relief boxes to 2,400 agencies. JOB ROLE PURPOSE & SUMMARY: The Operations Manager is responsible for procuring food, managing the overall inventory process, and developing robust food distribution programs to meet the needs of partner agencies. The Operations Manager ensures distribution is implemented with safe and efficient use of the facilities, equipment, employees, and volunteers. The Operations Manager is the key leader for organizing and executing loadouts.

Requirements

  • 2-years relevant work experience, 5-years desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability creating a team-oriented environment and achieving results through others.
  • Proven initiative, problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to use technology or learn computer skills, such as Office 365 and GeoTab and Primarius.
  • Willingness to participate in training that may include development of professional skills, education on MFB’s policies and procedures, and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leading volunteers, warehouse and/or trucking logistics desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manage logistical network for food procurement and distribution of $45M annually with support of Executive Director.
  • Identify, understand, support, and serve the needs of the division’s partner agencies.
  • Procure donated food from local and regional suppliers; balance the financial cost of volunteer truck drivers and brokered loads.
  • Maintain accurate inventory information throughout the timely receipt, sort, label, and distribute cycle via the computerized inventory system.
  • Enable food distribution programs, such as scheduled distributions, satellite locations, community outreach, and disaster relief.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse/Agency/Volunteer roles and ensure load-ins and loadouts are executed with safe and efficient use of the facilities, equipment, employees, and volunteers.
  • Maintain clean and safe working conditions inside and outside of the warehouse including food, products, equipment, facilities and grounds.
  • Communicate updates and provide regular inventory reports to the Executive Director and MFB Central Office.
  • Organize and optimize inter-facility transportation of food and supplies.

  • Foster a Christ-centered culture; develop positive relationships and appreciation for volunteers, employees, partner agencies, and community and business contacts.
  • Ensure compliance with all MFB policies, procedures, and rules and with all contractual obligations, regulatory standards, and relevant laws.
  • Recruit, identify, train, and continue to nurture volunteers in support of job role.
  • Network with peers locally and nationally and across the MFB organization.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.
