About The Position

Founded with the mission to seamlessly integrate art, architecture, and nature, Glenstone is a world-class contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland. Opened in 2006 and expanded in 2018, the museum welcomes visitors to a unique experience of indoor and outdoor spaces enveloped by 300 acres of organically maintained meadow and woodlands. Admission is always free. The work culture at Glenstone is dynamic and team oriented. As a mission-driven nonprofit, we are proud to foster a workplace where associates feel valued, respected, and accepted. We leverage our collaborative and enriching culture to provide abundant opportunities for all associates to develop new skills, feel connected to our mission, and actively participate in advancing their careers. The goal of the internship program at Glenstone is to cultivate the next generation of the workforce by exposing interns to various professional pathways in the museum world. In collaboration with their department, interns can expect to gain professional experience by supporting specific departmental initiatives and projects. Interns are encouraged to connect with fellow team members throughout the organization to gain knowledge and build lasting relationships. The Operations Division at Glenstone consists of several departments including Design & Project Delivery, Grounds, Engineering, Information Technology, Housekeeping, and Logistics. Collectively these departments support the ongoing operations of the museum by maintaining various systems and keeping the facilities and grounds clean, safe and show ready for our visitors. The team also overseas all technology software, hardware and infrastructure for the museum. The Operations intern will gain broad exposure to each of our divisions and be able to demonstrate a baseline understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all departments within the organization. The primary project for the Operations intern will be a knowledge capture, organization and documentation in support of internal training across IT and Engineering. Specific deliverables we would like are: Create a series of short training videos documenting key knowledge that an on-call engineer must possess. Support IT in the documentation of processes related to the visitor lifecycle. Test, validate and update process documentation for common tasks required by Glenstone staff. Update and organize Engineering Team document repository. Shadow other departments to understand how they support museum operations including design and project delivery team, logistics, and grounds. Delivery a final presentation to Operations leadership documenting your accomplishments and providing recommendations for follow on work. By participating in these projects, the intern will gain a working understanding of all functions required to facilitate museum operations. The intern will gain additional experience in process mapping, training design, video capture and editing.
