About The Position

This is a temporary position within the Operations Team. The Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience in leading, coordinating, and supporting various facets of retail operations across Runnings. This role is designed to help post-secondary students develop practical skills in retail operations management, customer service, process improvement, and leadership. The work involves a combination of independent tasks and collaborative projects alongside the Operations Team and cross-departmental partners. This internship provides valuable exposure to the operational functions that support Runnings stores and ensure a consistent, customer focused experience. This is a part time position with a flexible starting date at the end of the spring semester that will last through the end of summer. Based on business needs and internship performance, this position has the potential to transition into a permanent role at the end of the internship.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be enrolled and actively pursuing a degree in Business, Operations Management, Retail Management, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Build operational credibility by understanding specifics related to front-end operations, receiving and backroom process, stocking, merchandising, department rotations, safety compliance, and shrink awareness
  • Learn how to be a leader in promoting a safe workplace environment for our team members and customers
  • Understand how the business is measured in sales, margin, comp trends, labor scheduling and productivity, shrink drivers and controls, inventory flow, promotional execution, analyze gaps, and implement strategies that improve sales, profit, and customer service across the company
  • Shadow District Managers, Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, and department leads to observe daily huddles, coaching, priority setting, motivational tactics, and leadership responses in high-pressure situations.
  • Assist with customer inquiries, resolving opportunities, and ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Support ongoing projects by conducting research, preparing documents, and coordinating with different departments
  • Assist with creating/communicating/policies, procedures, and SOPs for all retail operations Touchpoints with Merchandising, Marketing, DC, HR, and Finance leaders
  • Help reinforce and implement the company’s vision and goals with retail associates to ensure alignment and unified direction.
  • Deliver a final presentation highlighting key learnings, projects completed, and outcomes achieved throughout the internship
