About The Position

The Adult Services Residential Director at May Institute provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple residential programs serving adults with developmental disabilities in the Boston and South Shore areas. This role is ideal for an experienced human services leader who is passionate about high-quality care, staff development, and ensuring individuals live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives. Role Overview Reporting to senior leadership, the Residential Director oversees the operations, compliance, and clinical integrity of multiple group homes. This leader partners closely with Assistant Residential Directors, clinical teams, nursing, families, and support departments to ensure consistent, person-centered services that promote independence, dignity, and community integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Minimum of 3 years managing teams and multiple program locations
  • Experience implementing physical intervention strategies (e.g., Safety Care or similar)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills

  • Experience overseeing licensed residential programs
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and human services best practices
  • Demonstrated success leading managers and complex operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead Multi-Site Operations: Oversee daily operations across assigned residential programs, ensuring safe staffing, effective workflows, and consistent service delivery.
  • Develop & Support Leaders: Supervise, coach, and mentor Assistant Residential Directors and administrative staff to build strong, accountable teams.
  • Ensure Quality & Compliance: Maintain compliance with state regulations, licensing requirements, and May Institute policies; prepare programs for audits and reviews.
  • Promote Person-Centered Care: Ensure services support skill development in communication, adaptive living, behavior management, and community participation.
  • Partner Across Teams: Collaborate with clinical, nursing, facilities, HR, quality, and family services to address program needs and improve outcomes.
  • Strengthen Safety & Risk Management: Oversee incident review, investigations, corrective actions, and crisis response to ensure individual and staff safety.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve service quality, efficiency, and staff performance across residential programs.
