About The Position

An Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) Operations Center Duty Controller performs Command and Control (C2) duties for the installation, serving as the central point of contact for maintaining situational awareness of installation activities, managing emergencies, notifying base leadership of significant events, and submitting Operational Reports to higher echelons as required.

Requirements

  • Able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, weekends and holidays; work center is 24/7/365.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of customers up to and including senior ranking Air Force officials.
  • Working knowledge and experience with personal computers and automated systems.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous United States Air Force Command Post or Operations Center controller experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college or vocational training in related and or applicable discipline, plus two (2) years relevant and progressive experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) such as an Emergency Services (911) Dispatcher.

Responsibilities

  • Perform selected (applicable to AEDC mission) Air Force command post functions; must be able to maintain certification (formal training and monthly testing program) in accordance with Air Force Manual 10-207, Command Post Operations.
  • Initiate centralized alerting and notification through Installation Notification Warning System (INWS) for disasters, emergencies, contingencies, etc., and manage the recall of personnel.
  • Accomplish Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC) actions and notifications for events such as mishaps, accidents, adverse weather, other emergencies, and operational/testing deviations; maintain a daily events log and prepare a Morning Report for senior installation leadership.
  • Accomplish Operational Reports (OPREPs) in accordance with Air Force Manual 10-206, Operational Reporting, and up-channel to higher headquarters using the Automated Message Handling System.
  • Monitor classified and unclassified computer systems to insure correspondence from higher headquarters is received and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and utilize radio communications to include VHF and Local Mobile Radio (LMR) network. VHF is used to monitor aircraft utilizing the airfield, and LMR is used to coordinate activities with on-base organizations.
  • Provide monitoring and coordination support to daily test, technology, and maintenance activities, and assist in resolution of resource (electricity, water, steam, natural gas, etc.) shortfalls/conflicts; coordinate resource requirements with local utility providers.
  • Monitor facilities Emergency Monitoring Control System (EMCS) and make notifications of alerts for facility conditions out of tolerance ranges.
  • Use the Integrated Maintenance Scheduling System (IMSS) to generate facility work orders after hours and weekends.
