About The Position

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an In Process Validation (IPV) Automation Specialist to join their factory-based team in Sanford, NC. This role is crucial for the design, development, and support of software systems for factory calibrations and testing processes, ensuring machines meet performance requirements. The specialist will lead the design, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of software solutions for automated factory calibration and testing, program, debug, and troubleshoot related software, and collaborate cross-functionally for seamless integration. The role also involves maintaining detailed documentation, driving innovation through technical expertise, staying current with industry trends, and aligning with Caterpillar's standard operating procedures, including safety and quality standards. Requirements

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Hardware and Software Product Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of technical aspects of hardware and software products; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects of hardware and software products.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.
Industrial Automation/Automatic Control: Knowledge of various industrial automatic control systems, processes and methodologies in a manufacturing environment; ability to design, implement and maintain automatic production systems/processes to improve productivity and efficiency, as well as minimizing human intervention.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant technical discipline
Demonstrated knowledge of CAN and J1939 communication protocol
Knowledge of electro-hydraulic machine systems and components
Demonstrated experience designing complex testing equipment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong project management and documentation skills
Ability to design and follow electrical schematics
