About The Position

Operational Compliance Specialist focusing on 1st line compliance and regulatory support for the lending and operational units. Acts as a liaison between business units and 2nd lines to assist in understanding regulatory requirements. Specialist will work with business units to ensure proper policies and procedures are in place, reviewed, and adhered to. Acts as main resource for questions and procedure regarding regulatory reporting such as HMDA, 1071, and NMLS.

Requirements

  • 3 years professional experience in a progressive financial setting or related field
  • 2 years compliance or regulatory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance or related field; or additional three years of combined experience in a progressive finance or compliance setting
  • Intermediate skills in the following: computer operating skills (windows navigation, mouse/keyboard functionality), Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, applicable departmental specific software.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations
  • Demonstrated ability to document outcomes and present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with strong organizing and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and timelines
  • Adaptive to change, responds positively to altered circumstances or conditions
  • Possess a desire and willingness to learn and continually update knowledge base on financial concepts, strategies, systems etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Credit Union Compliance Officer, or equivalent, preferred
  • Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE), Fair Lending Expert; or other related certifications preferred
  • Core Banking Systems, ACES, Questsoft experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building, reviewing, and administering 1st line compliance programs
  • Strong ability to research, read, and interpret government regulations, technical reports, and legal documents
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of credit union operations and lending processes with ability to work on complex issues and to identify key fair lending risks
  • Develop and maintain a first line fair lending program
  • Understand use of AI models to detect fair lending risks, anomalies, and patterns in loan data
  • Provide regulatory and audit support for business units (CFPB, NCUA, etc.)
  • Lead efforts to collect, validate, analyze, and submit loan data to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including HMDA and 1071
  • Lead effort to collect and submit data for CFPB credit card submission requirements
  • Act as an expert and main resource for regulatory questions, research, and advice to first line business units
  • Maintain NMLS registry and licensing for all MACU lending team members. Coordinate and conduct NMLS training
  • Assist with the compliance monitoring process including identification of areas to monitor, monitoring schedule, reporting, and addressing identified gaps
  • Review and track first line assessments, guiding business units through process and associated risks
  • Provide compliance support for disclosure review and version tracking
  • Assist in gap analysis for credit union policies, procedures, and compliance programs
  • Collaborate with business units to support remediation and reporting of issues management
  • Review updates to procedures and determine if changes affect board policy, standards or step-by-steps
  • Utilize RegTech platforms and automated compliance monitoring tools
  • Interpret emerging regulatory changes and proactively support business units in adapting policies and procedures
  • Assist in annual board policy review by documenting changes and completing change request forms for lending and operational sections
  • Write various types of documentation, such as procedures manuals, job aids, and reference guides that comply with MACU standards on language, writing style, structure, and format
  • Work closely with MACU Risk teams and other operational business units to provide compliance and regulatory information and make recommendations
  • Review business unit processes, technology offerings, and automated processes to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Utilize data visualization tools to present regulatory findings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
